WATER AT CHORCHA

Ngäbe Social Tidbits presents -Water at Chorcha has finally arrived! They drilled the well, and we waited for the setup. Since there is no electricity in Chorcha, we needed to use a generator to pump the water from the well. Fortunately, the men dug the water lines previously before the arrival of a generator to pump the first water from the well.

WATER WATER! YAY!

Here are photos of the Ngäbes watching as the first water came through the pipes. Everyone was excited. No more carrying water in containers to the house for drinking and bathing. Water at Chorcha -what a blessing! Love this kind of news for Ngäbe Social Tidbits. Check out my Ngäbe-Buglé Nation on this site for more Ngäbe news.

METER SET UP

Additionally, we needed to set up the meter and connections to run the pump for drawing the water. An upright concrete slab provides the base for the material.

GENERATOR

Initially, the drilling company provided the generator for the water well at Chorcha for the first tryout. In the future, we (Cleft of the Rock Ministries) will be providing a generator for the Children’s Feeding Shelter and have built a housing unit to cover it for protection.

We watched as the water filled the large blue 600-gallon tank. Two local boys had just carried containers of water from down the hill. Their water source isn’t always that close. The people have had to travel for one hour to get water at one time.

As an aside, on our travel up the road to Chorcha, we passed a creek where we watched young children getting water in containers to take home.

DONOR

We want to thank the donor who paid for a water well for Chorcha. A donor from the United States gave the money specifically for the well. Her husband was a doctor, and she wanted to drill a well for the Ngäbes in his memory after he died. We want to place a plaque in his memory at the well.
